[ Physics ] Open Question : Why is z=1-x-y a two dimensional plane, whereas, z=sqr(1-x^2-y^2) is a 3 d sphere?
Why is z=1-x-y a two dimensional plane, whereas, z=sqr(1-x^2-y^2) is a 3 d sphere? I know what the graphs look like. What I am asking specifically is this: multiplication is essentially addition, when it is broken down. Therefore, by my thinking, x^2 would also be essentially, an addition problem. But x^2 + y^2 + z^2 = 1 would be graphed as a 3 dimensional sphere, not a 2 dimensional plane. Or should I be thinking of the sphere, as a 2 dimensional plane in the shape of a sphere, which would result in a 3 dimensional object? Because, as I understand the graph x^2 + y^2 + z^2 = 1, this is not a solid sphere. Is this correct, or is my logic going astray? Thanks for any input, Angela.

[ Other - Politics %26 Government ] Open Question : Did President FDR ever say that he killed his grandmother last night to see if anyone was listening?
This is possibly an urban legend. I took a methods of adult teaching class, and this was a statement that was made about FDR to show how important it is to listen. I was just wondering if anyone can verify this. Just for personal gain, no special reasons. It was a good point to make, but I like to verify thinks before I repeat them. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
